Re: Body worn camera/ 5 mins intervention

We've had BWCs for ages. You only turn them on as and when needed. Re: poelt december but being asked to do osg role whilst training is closed?

My training, a number of years ago, was before and after Christmas. We had 2 full weeks off at my jail, but I know that others on my course had to put in some shifts at theirs. Every prison is different and it's down to the local establishment and not Shared Services to decide.

Re: prison officer to prison ratio

Abu, it's 1 officer to every 30 prisoners, but I hear a rumour it may be going down to 1 to 25. I won't hold my breath on that though! Re: Can Northern Ireland prison officers gets personal protection weapons?

I still fail to see why carrying a gun would make you better at doing the job... If you're so keen to have a gun, go to the USA. They pretty much hand them out willy-nilly over there, and you don't even need to be a Police Officer! :slwh:

Re: Can Northern Ireland prison officers gets personal protection weapons?

Yes, Northern Irish Prison Officers are allowed to carry a firearm due to the nature of their job, but only when outside of work. They aren't allowed to carry them inside the prison; just in case anyone was wondering!

Holloway still hasn't closed yet, so London jails are waiting for them to arrive... But, as you say, it won't touch the sides. :slwott:
