You will be fine. If you have been doing the bleep test alone you will find it easier running it on the day with others. You will also find you are told how many shuttles you have left etc so it keeps you going. Dont worry about the speed and agility test either. It is shorter than 15m with the slalom set at 1/3 and 2/3 of that. If you can run the speed for the bleep test you can do the agility test as the quicker you run the more you have to slow down for the cones anyway so a nice steady pace is all you need. Worst case you have to run as fast as you can but its 34 seconds and its done. You then have plenty of time to train for you next fitness test on the job.

So would you say that the speed for level 5 of the bleep test is fast enough to do the agility or do I need to go faster than that? How many times, roughly, do you go up and down and round the cones? I imagine that they will have me running round and round and backwards and forwards round and round cones and I think that's why I'm getting in a panic about it! I just picture myself looking like a collie at crufts!! I don't feel like 34 seconds is very long and feel like iv probably got to do quite a bit in that time.

Are you still worrying about the cones? ๐Ÿ˜œ You will be absolutely fine, honestly!! The cones are easy compared to the bleep test - well that's what I thought anyway. Let someone else go before you so you can see exactly what you need to do. I hope the next time you comment on this thread is to say you've booked your RAD ๐Ÿคฃ

I still haven't booked it!! I have nightmares about running round cones!! Even if I watch someone else do it, I will try and run like them but in my head my legs are going really fast but in reality they arnt. I only just manage the bleep test, what I get to I can do fairly well but it's enough, I don't think I'd be able to keep up with the beeps at level 6 which when I read that people say level 5 is just a fast jog makes me worry because I definitely don't find it easy.

Get it booked!! Put yourself out of your misery ha. I didn't have time to train and I managed the bleep test. It wasn't a walk in the park but I got there. I just kept up with the lad who was running with me. The other girl dropped out and I was determined I wasn't going all that way to fail it. The instructor tells you how many lengths you have left to complete - he was great. Its 30 odd seconds of running around a few cones - it's nothing at all to worry about. Get the RAD booked ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Agility. The simple way my instructor put it :-

Focus on not hitting the cones on turns (think rally driver - I know right? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ but it works!) keep your speed for the 15m straights, give those bits your all ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š

You have (I think) 34 seconds to complete the speed and agility.
I did it first time 2 mins after the 5.4 and failed by half a second. 2 mins later - after his advice I did it at 31. You'll be fine ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Ž
Applied 16/04/2017, passed RAD 16/05, submitted vetting 18/05, got the call 07/07, Contract received and role accepted 18/07, familiarisation visit 19/07, induction week 24/07, POELT Sunningdale 31/07, Newbold 31/07 night, thanks 'ss' :slcoo:

Il book it this week!!

That's the same with me, I don't want to go all that way and fail, il be gutted.

When you say focus on not hitting the cones, obviously you can't hit the cones atall but do you take it wider going round them or do you try and run closer to them?? I'd cry if I was just half a second out. How do you get your legs working again so quick straight after doing the bleep test?

I ran as close as I could to them not sure what others did. We had a few minutes rest before the cones. Your adrenaline will see you through. Afterwards you will wonder why you were so worried about the cones. If it was difficult I would be honest but it's not at all.

I'm not sure what keeps me going faster, keeping close to them or going wider round them. Either way I end up doing this silly shuffle round them!

Get it booked, honestly you'll be fine! I'm not fast and am vertically challenged......and I managed it. The coned test relies on you having a good grip on your footwear, as you go around the cone. I hesitated with which way I was going next, but the instructor is guiding you. The hesitation only cost me hundredths of a second. Plus the only straight run in it was a short distance. Think of it like this, it's a short burst for 34/35 seconds. It prob takes longer to leg it up the stairs, for a wee, then realise you've left the toilet roll downstairs, in the shopping bag!! Good Luck
