Retake my English exam, RAD

Post by keiramurphy » Sat Aug 19, 2017 10:54 am

Hello everyone.

I've recently received my results for the RAD day, i achieved A and B grades in the role play, got 100% in the maths, passed my fitness test BUT i failed the English by 2 marks :(

They've sent me an email to say i'm on the list to get invited back next week to retake my English.

Have you any advice? i'm not sure why i struggled so much on it, when i'm usually good at English. It was the first section, extracting information onto a basic form that i think i have failed on.

Has anyone had to go back to sit their English exam again, if so, what can i expect on the day?

Thank you!

Hi, yeah i failed my english test by 2 marks, so had to go and re-sit it.
You will pass it the second time round. They go through all the questions with you that your not sure off just before you re-sit the exam.
Once you've got that close, they want you pass.

You mean the bit where you write a report on the picture you're given? If so, it MUST be a certain number of words long....make sure you physically count the number of words you write. Then it's just basic observation skills, what they're wearing, how many people, what they're doing, how/where they're stood/sat etc, what else is in the room.

I hope that helped?
3/7/2017 - Applied

27/7/2017 - RAD. Fitness test incomplete due to medical circumstances

Thank you so much.

"Your details and accreditation notification will now be sent to the Ministry of Justice administration centre. They will hold your details on the accreditation list and contact you as soon as you are matched to a vacancy at your chosen Prison so that the vetting and security process can be started where required."

Is that the merit list? not sure what to expect now

thank you

If it's the same as mine you'll get another email in a few days. This one just says you've passed the RAD.

My next email basically said there are no current vacancies, but as you're a strong candidate they will hold your details on a reserve list, and as soon as a vacancy becomes available you will be notified. Your Rad lasts for 12months from then.

Some seem to get a conditional offer with in a few days of being merit listed, others seem to have to wait months.

Everything seems to be a waiting game.

It's a midlands prison, currently I've only applied to the one prison, only one within an hour that had an active recruitment campaign.

But I've set up some job alerts on moj recruitment site should any of the other local prisons start recruiting.
