Help vetting failed

Post by Andrea280770 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 5:44 pm

Can anybody help husband has completed 23 yrs service in the army when he was 21 he was charged with ABH And sentenced to 3 months military prison he had an interview with Sodexo for prison custody officer and declared it on interview and was told it was fine!! He started training course last week and was told on Friday that his vetting had failed, and he was to write a letter to SSC he wasn't told what to include in the letter, can he appeal their decision and has anybody had any luck in doing so. Why are they punished for something that happened when he was 20 and has never been repeated??? And are u telling me every prison officer has never done anything stupid or been convicted hard to believe??

In a nut shell yes, prior to service.
When in the job, things happen that are not in a persons control and the powers that be help the staff though difficult times (In some places at least).

Just like when he committed the offense, the army dealt with it but I'm afraid that will go against him joining the service.

Its not handled with compassion anymore or people sitting at a desk looking over what people are like.
Its down to selection tests, passing DBS (the new CRB check) and treating every applicant the same.

If I were him, I would appeal.
If he does, make sure he doesn't give it "I've done 20+ years in the army, I deserve the job".
Give a full and detailed account of the event, the punishment and the 20+ years of active service, tours and medals that he has been awarded after he made this grave error in judgement in his youth.
I'd even go as far as contacting your local MP, if someone is good enough to risk their lives for the crown then they are good enough to carry on serving in the prison estate.

Good luck and please, keep us informed.

That's great news! Wish your partner good luck on his training but lets be honest...he doesn't need it :)

I have previously failed vetting - nppv2 application rejected for a community protection role. Does this mean i will also be rejected from hmp prison officer roles?

I was told that assault was an automatic bar from service that includes cautions for assault

on my DBS it says none recorded in all boxes, No cautions, no warnings, no information held by the chief policing etc..

so fingers crossed

Is the pnc heck done part of the pre employment checks or CTC?

No further action means just that.

A caution is given when there's an admission of guilt.
