Maths online test and RAD test

Post by K123 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 9:52 pm

Hello I've just recently applied to become a prison officer I've wanted to do this for so long, I'm quite rubbish at maths so nervous about these tests. Do you actually have to use maths on a daily basis once you get your job? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

It's not maths in the idea that 'if <x> prisoner is in <y> wing, what is the circumference of his head'.
It is more, 'there should be 20 prisoners in this yard, 10 in this class and 15 locked up, are they all there?' at least that's what was in the maths test I took at my RAD!

As long as you have basic maths and English skills you should be fine, but there are some practice tests online I believe if you are worried :)
When you do them, just make sure you check and re-check your answers.

Thank you for your reply. Can anyone give me any information on if you fail the online test where you can get feedback from? I am 100% certain I answered them all correctly, and still unfortunately won't be taken to the next step. I am gutted 😔

You know it could be as simple as not counting the little stick people right. If you ain't done that you lose 4 marks straight away for those questions which would be a fail as I think you can only lose 2 marks?
If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you! :slda:

Thank you, I'm also thinking it could be the little videos I fail on too. I'll keep trying, I've wanted this for so long, they don't recruit often enough lol

 I think I did it, last time it said unfortunately they've checked my results I won't be taken further.

Now it says my application is currently being reviewed I will be contacted shortly, does this mean I might be onto the next stage to be asked for RAD! I hope so I am so excited!! 😁😁😁

How long did it take between taking the test and getting your RAD date? My online status says it’s currently being reviewed and they’ll be in touch. I’m so nervous! I’ve wanted this for so long!

I did my online test 2 weeks ago and have to attend a familiarisation day at the establishment I chose one Monday. Is that the same for the rest of you?

It all depends on the establishment you apply for. Some arrange your visit before your RAD others do it after your vetting and some dont arrange them at all. I start in two weeks and have not had a visit yet but have been informed I should hear about one soon after emailing my HR to clarify about the break in training for christmas etc.

Hello mate,

I did mine before i was even aloud to book my rad.. The whole point of the familiarization event is to do it before you continue further through process. To ensure you have a slight insight what prison environment feels like. Its to stop wasting everyone's time and resources, if you pass everything get start dates, first time in a prison and might absolutely hate it.

For me i really enjoyed it, there were people on my visit that really didn't like it and decided not to continue.

Its strange how it works though as i had to attend before i was even able to book it on the steria. Some people don't even have them.

All the best

I thought that may well be the case. Thank you for clearing that up makes alot more sense than paying for people to do a RAD and drop out after a couple of weeks.
