YOI RAD

Post by Mccudden » Wed Nov 08, 2017 11:30 am

Hey Everyone,

So I have my RAD tomorrow and i would be lying if I said I am not slightly nervous. What happens if you are applying for a YOI and only pass 3 rather than the required 5 scenarios? Do you have to go back through the application form start to finish or do they offer the chance to go for a HMP?

I don't know for sure but I would assume it would be the same as a normal rad and if you miss out by 1 or 2 marks then u will be offered a development day to re sit the part you missed out on.. but I suppose there could be a option to mirror results to a adult estate but u would need to speak to sscl for advise or ask the rad assessor as they are all ex governor grades so will probably know

Hi.

I’ve failed YOI in July and passed everything else ( all exams, fitness and adult part of simulations.
I received a call with a start day a week ago, even tho my placement is HMP/YOI type. I assume I’ll be assigned to work within adult wings, as they don’t mix juveniles with adults

So they told you that you had failed after your RAD? Did they not invite you back to do the 2 YOI scenarios?

They did. But they have stated that I passed adult part and therefore I’m allowed to work in adult settings. About after results I’ve received invitations to attend another rad only to go through 2 juvenile role plays. Two days later I’ve received conditional offer from my placement, so I cancelled that extra rad day. They said that I could apply for additional YOI exams in the future if I’m willing to work with YOI.

Thats interesting to hear! Well I did my RAD yesterday and I have no idea how I did, I don't feel I done too bad but then I don't feel confident, just a waiting game now for my results.

I've searched so don't shoot me down in flames....

I applied for a YOI, nothing else, passed the online tests and went to a RAD. Currently waiting on the results to that. But I only did 3 scenarios not 5 that people seem to be mentioning.

Are YOI RAD different?

A YOI RAD is five scenarios 3 adult and 2 kids. Without the last 2 you can't do YOI. Speak to your RAD centre or establishment.

Not necessarily so, some YOI are 18-21 so officially adults.

Only 3 scenarios required, this is fact.

Under 18 there may be 5, don't know.

Is the establishment you're applying for 18-21 or juveniles?

Hope this helps.

Some RAD centres will do 3 adult and one or two YOI scenarios, others may not. However to work in YOI it is my understanding that you must take 1 scenario of all those on the day that deals with youths.
Fam visit then POST - 21 June

RAD result - 14 July
Conditional offer - 17 July

Again..........................depends on age of inmates, 'some' YOI are 18-21 (as previously mentioned) so are technically adults and only the 3 'standard' scenario's are required.

Under 18 I'm sure the youth specific tests are needed, I can only comment on what I know has been done by my boy who has now started his training in such an establishment.

Regards.

Thank you both.

I've had a quick google of it and it seems it is male and young adult. Which implies no juveniles!

Makes sense now!

I am guessing your son is working in a HMP/YOI prison then rather than an STC?
