Need to remember the prison is ours we just let them stay there. So none of this it's there house or own space. You can't go to a hotel and spark up?

I vaguely remember some movie where tons of missing people were returned to the planet including Glen Miller although he was slightly changed and now played reggae
In some YOI they do get gifts, socks or little stocking filler type things. Staff will usually get a longer dinner there will be a little fewer staff on over the whole day because bang up is usually earlier. You will tend to find its harder to bang up the more difficult cons near the end of your day over the festive period.
We're also doing something different again this year for food. Last year I did a tapas which was amazing. This year with be a 3 bird game pie (pheasant, partridge and duck - all shot locally and prepared by yours truly), roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots and peas with a home made stuffing.
But boss boss....... NO.
No is a good word to have.
You can change a no to a yes easier than a yes to a no if your unsure.

1st Week at Establishment (pre-poelt)

Post by bluinfernouk » Thu Nov 09, 2017 10:27 pm

Have just done my 1st week at my chosen establishment... and it has been an absolutely amazing week!

(Final half day tomorrow, shadowing in FNC, then off to POELT on Monday)

Have got an incredibly knowledgeable and insightful mentor and an HR team that bends over backwards to make sure we are all sorted and ready for POELT next week. Cannot fault anything or anyone in any way.

Had received our uniforms on Monday (all sorted with winter coats too), already completed all our moj and civilservice online training, have shadowed and assisted daily in every wing and on landings on all different shift patterns, including visits and new arrivals, met all the wing commanders, got our own keys and have been escorting ourselves around from place to place.

And the thing that has really stood out, has been how helpful and friendly everyone is, as they seem to appreciate they will need us, as much as we will need them ahead. In all they've made it clear they are looking forward to us returning after POELT, which has given me an even greater incentive to want to give of my very best.

On a side note, discipline at my establishment seems to be instilled from the moment a prisoner arrives. Everyone, officers and prisoners alike, refers to everyone as rank/sir/miss/gov or mr x and everyone seems to show the same respect for one another - obviously there are a few prisoners that think differently, but strangely they find themselves down in the seg unit soon enough 🙄

Yes, I know it will not all be a bed of roses once going live after POELT, but so far, I'm very happy with my decision to have joined HMPS.

Good luck to everyone else too
