Exempt from Maths and English at RAD

Post by Luckytrader » Sat Nov 11, 2017 8:25 pm

Hi all,
At my familiarisation day we were told that if you have GCSE English and Maths and can present proof of this, you will not have to sit the Maths and English elements of the RAD. Can anyone tell me more about this, how to present the proof and so on. Would the presentation be done on the day or before the actual RAD day?

If its true you would have to produce your GCSE certificates grade C and above.

Wonder if this applies to level 2 numeracy and literacy. (As these are C and above or now 7 and above) - for ex military.

Shame they don't do things like that with dbs clearance etc would actually speed up the process I don't see what maths or English exemptions would achieve

As far as I am aware I never had another DBS done (haven't recieved my copy) and it still took them 17 weeks 2 days to finish with my vetting, granted 6 of those weeks were due to OH assist having a backlog.

There was no mention of this at my Rad, or any mention of any academic qualifications, my understanding was unless you’re entering through the graduate route, no qualifications were needed, and everyone took the same Rad.

If someone has got the levels required, then the tests should be a breeze! It’s no reason why people should be exempt from the assessments. If someone doesn’t do well under pressure, then maybe this job isn’t for them. There’s a hell of a lot of pressure on us, pretty much all of the time, so better get used to it from the start :slwh:

They are not very difficult tests, counting, 24hr clock and reading from graphs. The literacy test is just taking information from lumps of text and writing what you see.

I had to do functional skill level 2 for Maths and English even though I have a science based degree which saw me produce work at lvl6 so I have no sympathy for people having to redo the simple maths and English tests even though they have a GCSE.
