Use your nerves as a good thing ( assuming you are nervous). The best advise I could give is stay calm, especially in the role play scenarios its very easy to go off track but just remember you are there to listen but be assertive if necessary, but not aggressive! Also with the maths and literacy test take your time, there is plenty of it. Best of luck on your RAD I'm sure you will be fine.

I just got home from my RAD at Bath, I had a great day. I am exhausted now, but I loved it.

I found one of the scenarios particularly difficult, but I think everyone else there struggled a bit with that one too. I can't really advise anything other than to be yourself when doing the simulations! I was so nervous, I certainly stumbled and mumbled a few times but I think (I hope) I had all bases covered. In my case I left the room before the ten minutes was up, I think the scenarios took their natural course. You will know how it feels at the time and whether or not you need to stay or leave the room. I can't really say much more than that without giving the game away :slin:

I also found out there and then that I passed my fitness test, the rest I have to sit and wait. My brain was fuzzy by the time we got to the maths and English test, I would advise you take plenty of snacks and water! I suffered because I didn't keep myself energised.

Just enjoy it, try to relax and roll with it.

Now I wait for the result......

I'm doing my RAD tomorrow, my first choice is an adult prison so would be doing 3 role plays, but my second choice is a YOI so would need to do 5?

If the RAD only has me down for an adults, should I tell them my second choice is the YOI so I can do all the role plays at one time instead of perhaps having to go back?

Nerves are kicking in already!

The RAD centre will probably only have the 3 scenarios there at the time. They hire professional actors to play the parts of prisoners but I suppose it's worth a mention although it may mean you have to do another RAD at a later stage :slbg:

Unlucky, If it was by 1 or 2 marks then you should be invited back for a development day. If it is the scenarios then you will again be invited back or you can apply again for a later date to give yourself time to prep.

Be on time
Go dressed casual /smart.
Dont be nervous
Take multiple forms of id/address.
Listen to instructions.
Be yourself in scenarios
If you fail by one or two marks you will invite you back to retake that part. It will make you a better officer for it

I just got the dreaded email today saying I’d failed RAD by 2 marks passed everything apart from respect towards others

I raised my voice once and. I think that’s what failed me 🙃

That's such a shame but don't worry, at least when you go next time you'll know what to expect.

Learn from it and go smash it the next time

Raising your voice don't affect your marks as much as you would of thought. You need to keep your head but If they raise voice you challenge them with equal tone and volume.
Its something else you've missed on, I know what it I but you'll be offered a development day.
You will find out on that
