five years ago Benchmarking came in which said prisons could run with a lot less staff, VEDS was born and thousands of highly experienced prison officers were paid off handsomely to leave early.
This gave HMP the prisons with a lot less staff that they wanted and since then? Well since then we have RECORD NUMBERS of brand new prison officers with 0 experience whatever. Far better than the hugely experienced prison officers who were paid handsomely to leave.

OSG Position

Post by Bagpuss » Fri Dec 15, 2017 2:31 pm

Just been sent an email from my establishment offering a temporary position as an OSG while waiting on the train. So here's to a break from checking Steria status hourly :slro: (Well in the New Year anyway)

Q. Anyone know if there's usually much pp as an OSG as my commute is going rack up 300 miles a week on my motor & with the lower pay grade would really be helpful?

Hey Bagpuss,

I was offered an early start as an OSG but on my prison officer salary. Are you sure they're paying you at an OSG band? Although I was offered after my vetting was complete.

Might be worth double checking.

Sent me £15k plus 17% shift allowance in email with full job description. Would be a bonus if I could get band 3. Although I've not passed vetting yet, just into week 7!

Wouldn’t you have to pass vetting to work as an osg anyway?

I'm sure it will all be explained to me at some point, but as I am doing them same as you, did you order an OSG uniform and a prison officer uniform?? I'm so confused as what to do!

Hey!

I ordered my prison officer uniform and said when I emailed it across that I am doing an early start as an OSG. So up to them if they give me both haha.

Uniforms are the same, just the epaulettes differ I believe.

Start of vetting to the call 17 weeks 2 days.
