five years ago Benchmarking came in which said prisons could run with a lot less staff, VEDS was born and thousands of highly experienced prison officers were paid off handsomely to leave early.
This gave HMP the prisons with a lot less staff that they wanted and since then? Well since then we have RECORD NUMBERS of brand new prison officers with 0 experience whatever. Far better than the hugely experienced prison officers who were paid handsomely to leave.

I was advised to do the same. I contacted the person responsible at the prison I have applied for. Only to be told that she could not give me any information.

14 weeks in with no idea what's going on so frustrating!

I have lost my current job as my employer was not to happy when A reference request turned up 3 months ago. My position has been filled by a new starter and I was given my marching orders.

Explained my position to SSCL who have said they will escalate my file.

Surely there can't be that much longer to wait?

How can one loose their job just because a reference request was sent to the employer?
Surely that is not legal and the union or citizen advice could help you make a case out of that. (Unless you gave in your notice?)

It can be legal if you've been employed less than two years you basically have no employee rights till you have been there for 2 yrs silly I know

Hey Natasha,

My establishment contacted me and asked that I keep them informed of my progress, may be each establishment different, but I kept them informed and not them me.

When I called SS just after 3 weeks of being in vetting they told me that everything was going smoothly and that because I had not heard from them that this was a good sign! So if you are not hearing anything then this could be the same for you ... but why not give SS a call and this can help put your mind at rest :)

Best of luck and hope you hear the good news soon.

Unless you have been directed too or your establishment have contacted you then it is pretty pointless calling them in all honesty, chances are they don't even know who you are and you will end up even more frustrated than you already are.
It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity

Start of vetting to the call 17 weeks 2 days.

Well that doesn't sound to bad and at least they are progressing with your vetting :)

We ALL know what it is like to wait, wait and wait ... I was refreshing my email several times an hour, every hour, every day! Just got to keep positive and patient! 8)
