Vetting - how long?

Post by JL966 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 1:23 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering how long it has usually taken people for vetting? It has been 14 weeks so far for me and I feel as though I'm going insane! I have previously phoned ss but they advised they can't tell me anything and that silence is a good thing as that means vetting don't need anything, I last phoned on 17th Aug and they have said I should be hearing soon, I hope so! :slm:

Applied: 29/07/2016
RAD: 25/08/2016
RAD Results: 31/08/2016
Merit Listed: 06/09/2016
Offer & Vetting Started: 05/05/2017

Thanks! :slbg:

I've heard there is a serious bottleneck in getting people through the vetting process and onto allocated POELT places.

I'm on my 10th week and I know why there's a delay. I was told a week ago that they can't send refrence requests out to personal email address's and one of my refrences didn't have a work one so I had no choice lol I'm gonna be waiting for ages

With references you only need to really give them an email for that company, i gave them HR email. Easy then as directly gets sorted.

Do you need a CTC check? That could hold it up

I think this is where it gets confusing, unless that's a recent development it's not entirely true as one of my refs was a personal email & he received his request a couple of days into my vetting.
Though saying that, I can't say whether they received his reply, which he sent back same day, as I've heard nothing since the start :sloo:

It's so hard to stay upbeat isn't It? Someone on here recently posted about ss having a check list type thing, where it could state each stage of vetting just so you could see where you were in the process. I only found out my refs were contacted due to them telling me they had received emails. Someone also said vetting is at a 'bottleneck' state with applicants, not sure if this is accurate or not. It's a secret world the world of Vetting! :slin:

That was me, same system as the SIA have to let applicants know what stage their application to become registered is that would be ideal.

The official line on recruitment is that it could take 10 plus weeks from start to finish, obviously some people have come well under that and then others are well over so it is a mystery.
Fam visit then POST - 21 June
RAD - 12 July
RAD passed - 15 July
Conditional offer - 17 July
Vetting - 18 July :sloo:
OH Assist - 28 Sept
Awaiting scrutinisation by OH Assist - 19 Oct

Hi to all those waiting,
I know it is frustrating with the total lack of info given out, I know people who have cleared vetting in a few weeks others who have waited 5 months.
It all depends on how many employers they have to contact, how many address`s you have had. E-mails get lost, previous employers think references are not their top priority. My advice is contact your reference`s and ask if they have received/returned them. My vetting took 10 weeks, I used snail mail address`s for my references ( I was worried e-mails may be deleted if they went to spam box) I honestly don`t know if this slowed it down or sped it up.
If the vetting team have not contacted you everything must be progressing and once the status bar on your application changes from Pre employment checks are required to We will be contacting you shortly with details of the next step you can expect a call from Priority Placements within 4/5 days offering you a start date. Good luck.

Hi, I am also in week 14 :slbli: I don't really bother calling them as they say they can't give info but I did a couple of weeks back and they just said the same and that it was moving along and shouldn't be much longer but yet I'm still to hear anything. Only 1 address, 1 employer for the last 15 years - my references were contacted a month ago and replied the same day - whether they received them or not is another question as I have seen many saying they haven't. Nothing I can do really.............just keep waiting.....! :slzi:

Bit of a pain though, wanting to leave your job. If they don't receive the reference sent back asking your employers for another one.

It's frustrating I know, my refs went out within 1st week and were returned directly, to the point my manager is asking if I've had 2nd thoughts and will i reconsider. I've explained that no I've not had 2nd thoughts and that yes (hopefully) I will be leaving, but it gets awkward, you can't 'keep it quiet" as you have to get refs, so after a few weeks it becomes 'weird' especially when another member of staff goes for a job interview same time as you and has already left and started new job and your there like 'er well, maybe, soon, I hope' :sloo:

Totally agree with that. In the time I've applied aswell passed and been on merit list and then conditional offer, people have interviewed too, handed notice in and long gobe. 😂😂
