five years ago Benchmarking came in which said prisons could run with a lot less staff, VEDS was born and thousands of highly experienced prison officers were paid off handsomely to leave early.
This gave HMP the prisons with a lot less staff that they wanted and since then? Well since then we have RECORD NUMBERS of brand new prison officers with 0 experience whatever. Far better than the hugely experienced prison officers who were paid handsomely to leave.

Poelt Car sharing?

Post by Porecruit17 » Sun Dec 03, 2017 1:24 am

Hello all,

Has anyone car shared before? How does it work as my establishment told we are expected to car share rather than all claiming fuel expenses if we are traveling from same establishment. There are a few starting from my prison but not sure if there on the same course.

Would we be expected to take in turns?

That would be down to you and the others to sort out between you.

Start of vetting to the call 17 weeks 2 days.

There's a few on my POELT course car share but they live in same area of the same town as each other.

Yeah is a good idea so long as you're all close.

I certainly wouldn't want to be wasting a few hours either end of the training week collecting and dropping people off all over the place.

We had 5 people all start on the same day and all live fairly close. Our prison didn’t say anything like that. I claim £140 in fuel expenses a week so definitely worth driving down yourself.

I think 3 of us at same establishment are car sharing, although we live in different towns, I'm guessing the furthest away will get the hire car & pick others Up? Though we'll sort details in induction week. :slbg:

See if you’re getting a hire car, I’d agree about the car sharing.

But if you’re using your own car I wouldn’t be wanting to drive all over to car share.

Sorry may be being stupid here.

My POELT is like 15 miles from my house, I’m I able to claim expenses for Diesel.

I’m not really to bothered but if the option is there to get some money back it would make sense.

I think when you claim your expenses on sops it automatically gives me 46p per mile. Then it’s a little extra for wear and tear, tyres, breaks etc. Then you will get £5 a night for staying over at the site or £25 if your at a hotel. I also get my money back for tolls.

Do we get to claim for both ways or just 1 way? So can claim for Monday travelling and Friday travelling back?
