Need to remember the prison is ours we just let them stay there. So none of this it's there house or own space. You can't go to a hotel and spark up?

I vaguely remember some movie where tons of missing people were returned to the planet including Glen Miller although he was slightly changed and now played reggae

In some YOI they do get gifts, socks or little stocking filler type things. Staff will usually get a longer dinner there will be a little fewer staff on over the whole day because bang up is usually earlier. You will tend to find its harder to bang up the more difficult cons near the end of your day over the festive period.

We're also doing something different again this year for food. Last year I did a tapas which was amazing. This year with be a 3 bird game pie (pheasant, partridge and duck - all shot locally and prepared by yours truly), roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots and peas with a home made stuffing.

Forgive me trying to teach my granny how to suck eggs - I hadnt realised it was already published - well done sir - it is commenable. The joke about the methadone queue had me chuckling loudly - so very true; I imagine that the prison dentist must have some wonderful stories to tell as well.
I shall read your work soon and doubtless enjoy its content.
Good luck with future projects.

Don't quite understand where you are coming from Mike? Is it wrong for me to read a book about what I want to do?

I think Stu maybe meant 'reinforced his desire' to become an officer after reading a very well written book which has confirmed what he thought the job of officer entailed... :sloo: :sloo:

Am I on the right lines Stu?

I am just pleased that you have enjoyed reading the book. I am aware that the career of a prison officer may have turned into a job, however fundamentally the role has not changed and what will make that role even better is having a great bunch of colleagues to work with. The one advice I can give all new recruits is look after each other, watch each others backs. For me my time as a prison officer was some of the best working days of my working career so far.

Once again many thanks for all the good comments about the book

Yes you are correct Perdi.

I passed the book on to my dad now and he told me he was enjoying it too.
