Need to remember the prison is ours we just let them stay there. So none of this it's there house or own space. You can't go to a hotel and spark up?

I vaguely remember some movie where tons of missing people were returned to the planet including Glen Miller although he was slightly changed and now played reggae

In some YOI they do get gifts, socks or little stocking filler type things. Staff will usually get a longer dinner there will be a little fewer staff on over the whole day because bang up is usually earlier. You will tend to find its harder to bang up the more difficult cons near the end of your day over the festive period.

We're also doing something different again this year for food. Last year I did a tapas which was amazing. This year with be a 3 bird game pie (pheasant, partridge and duck - all shot locally and prepared by yours truly), roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots and peas with a home made stuffing.

Shifts/ days off

Post by Burtonboy » Sat Sep 23, 2017 8:51 pm

I know it will vary from week to week with your shift pattern, but on average how many days off do you get?

Does it average out to 5 days working, two days off a week?

Thanks.

Where I work it's 4 days at work 3 days off per week. Not a bad working week to be honest.

My provisional rota is all over the place, aything from 1 day off to 4 in a row off. Think I'm doing 8\9 shifts in a row at 1 point over the next few months. Not complaining, don't mind having irregular days off or an irregular rota.

As breaks are unpaid and so added to the length of the shift are they actually protected?? Are you able to use the gym etc while on them?

I wouldn't have time to eat my dinner if I went gym then had a shower.

That's a lot less nights than I imagined I would have to work, so that's a bonus.

I'm assuming staffing levels on nights are a lot less than on day shifts as the offenders are all locked up.

Yeah, I like switching up when I'm off... weekends are nice in the summer, but so are weekdays nice to have off so you can get things done while everyone is at work. Sounds good to me.

My establishment have various sports clubs for staff available at lunch time, football, volley ball, circuit training. This is encouraged as it keeps us fit and encourages team work. You can use the gym, at least at my establishment you can. Usage however does fit around the prisoners and male members of staff do have to use the same changing rooms as prisoners. As I female member of staff I will have the luxury of a female staff only gym and changing room.
